THE INS & OUTS OF BATHROOMS ON PRIVATE JETS

With private jets ranging in size from small jets that can carry a few passengers to specially built planes as big as airliners, the bathrooms on the type of aircraft you are flying can vary greatly. Generally speaking, most small private jets do not have toilets. This is because they only have a short range, and size and weight are factors in how they are designed.

Some, however, can have toilets fitted at the owner's request, the trade-off being that you lose space that could have been used for additional passengers. Also, even using the word bathroom is deceptive as many smaller midsize private jets have a small lavatory and are not spacious enough for passengers to even stand up in, never mind changing clothes.

Types of bathrooms found on private jets

Semi-enclosed toilets

On planes like the Phenom 100, Cessna Citation Mustang, and Learjet 35, a semi-enclosed toilet with a privacy curtain can be found between the cockpit and the cabin. They tend to be non-flushing chemical toilets located beneath the cushion of a seat.

Fully enclosed toilets

While 100 times better than a semi-enclosed toilet with a privacy curtain, entirely-enclosed lavatories can vary in size depending on the size of the plane. You will have to stoop your head on small private jets as they are not big enough to stand in.

The enclosed toilets are found in smaller jets at the front of the plane behind the cockpit. In larger planes, they are in a separate area in the rear of the cabin. As the size of the aircraft increases, the toilets are flushable and come with a sink and mirror. Examples of private jets with fully enclosed bathrooms are the following:

  • HondaJet
  • Embraer Phenom 300
  • Citation CJ2
  • Gulfstream G100
  • Learjet 60XR

Bathrooms in large private jets

As the plane grows, so do the amenities onboard, like the lavatories, with some bigger ones even having multiple. In the newer generation of business jets like the Global 7500 and Gulfstream G600, it's possible to include a shower in the aircraft's bathroom. The latest French Dassault Falcon 7X, Falcon 8X, and Falcon 10X aircraft are fitted with a rain shower in an enclosed cubicle.

VIP Airliners

When you reach airliner-size aircraft, the gloves are off regarding what you can do to the plane. Having multiple lavatories is commonplace; some even have private bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.

Deciding what private jet to charter

Chartering a private jet can be an attractive alternative to a regular commercial flight for business and leisure travelers. There are several advantages to why flying on a private jet is better than flying with an airline. Instead of getting to the airport hours early and dealing with long check-in lines and airport security checks, you arrive at the airport minutes before departure and board the plane. Another huge consideration is that private jets can take off from and fly into smaller airfields closer to where you want to go.

Flying by private jet also allows you to bring things onboard that you would not be able to do on commercial airliners, such as your family pet or prized goods that you may not be allowed to bring onboard or would rather not want to have in the cabin of a commercial airliner.

Private jets offer more comfort

Such aircraft also provide comfort rather than sitting in a cramped seat which is the case on most regional flights. Some private jets even have private bedrooms where you can get a good night's sleep on overnight trips allowing you to arrive fresh at your destination. Some most notable advantages of flying by private jet are:

  • Saving time
  • More convenient airports
  • You can take what you want onboard
  • Enhanced comfort
