DENVERITES SPEND ALMOST 2 HOURS ON TRAVEL EVERY DAY, REPORT FINDS

DENVER (KDVR) — Until something is invented to completely cut out the time it takes to get from one place to another, it will always take time to travel to places like work or the grocery store.

How much time people end up spending on travel can depend heavily on where they live, with things like traffic having an impact on the amount of time spent getting from point A to point B.

Which is faster: Driving to the Denver airport or taking the train?

The company Replica compiled travel data from the top 50 metro areas in the country and compared how much time residents spend on travel in each of them.

How much time is spent on travel every day?

According to the data, residents in eight metro areas spend, on average, more than two hours every day on travel:

  1. Nashville – 140.6 minutes
  2. Birmingham-Hoover, Alabama – 129.5 minutes
  3. Atlanta – 126.2 minutes
  4. Charlotte, North Carolina – 123.3 minutes
  5. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – 121.9 minutes
  6. Indianapolis, Indiana – 121.4 minutes
  7. Cincinnati – 120.6 minutes
  8. Memphis, Tennessee – 120.2 minutes
  9. Louisville, Kentucky – 119.2 minutes
  10. Jacksonville, Florida – 118.7 minutes

This travel time is not just the time spent on car travel but includes walking, biking and public transit as well, however, Replica said 95% of this is in the car.

Las Vegas and New York City were the only two metro areas where residents spent less than an hour and a half on travel each day at 89.8 minutes and 88.3 minutes a day respectively.

A lingering effect of the pandemic is making traffic worse in these US cities

Denver fell just below the two-hour mark, with the average resident of the Mile High City spending 116.9 minutes on travel each day, or just under one hour and 57 minutes.

Replica found that as population density went up, the amount of time spent on travel decreased.
